Covering nearly 20,000 square kilometres of exceptional natural beauty
and unique biodiversity, Kakadu is one of very few places World Heritage
listed for both its cultural and its natural values. Kakadu National
Park is managed jointly by its Aboriginal traditional owners and the
Director of National Parks.
For me Kakadu is no longer just a word but in one sense it is because it
is simply impossible to describe. These photos were taken while on a
helicopter ride. It was the start of the dry season and fires were
being deliberately lit. A cool burn they call it so that the
undergrowth can be controlled without harming the trees and bushes.
